"Any tips on how to help my newly diagnosed daughter (high
functioning autistic) to improve her self esteem. She thinks she's
'stupid' ...she thinks she's 'ugly' ...she thinks nobody likes her... I
don't know where she's coming up with these negative evaluations of
herself, but it breaks my heart. We are all a bit anxious since we got
the news about this disorder. But how can I help my daughter have a
better perspective of her true self and her strengths?"

Thank you. Today's newsletter meant a lot to me. As the parent of a recently diagnosed 10 year old, I was so busy thinking about him that I forgot to analyze and moderate my own perspective about myself.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a very comprehensive article. You listed so many positive ways that we can connect deeply with our children, yet also help them develop competence skills, which is so important in developing self-esteem.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very helpful article. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love my (10 year old) son, but not unconditionally. I cannot accept the way that he reacts with violence when things do not go his way :(
