He is having some severe stress at school, both socially and academically, and it is affecting his behavior at home. To give a bit of background, he has dysgraphia (written expression difficulties) and has always had a lot of frustration centered around writing of any sort- even writing out math problems. He also has, as I am sure you can relate, a lot of difficulty fitting in and has chosen to isolate himself in an attempt to "disappear". From the time that he was 3 or 4, his response to any frustration, anxiety, or depression has always been anger and sometimes even rage.

For the most part, he is a great kid and adapts relatively well, but anything connected with school (from going to doing homework) can bring him into a frenzy of inappropriate behavior- yelling, cursing, slamming doors, throwing stuff, and even physical responses (he actually slapped me once when I lost my own control and was yelling in his face). I wouldn't say he was violent during these episodes, but totally out of control is pretty accurate description. He is refusing to go to school, talking back, and basically loosing his mind if I tell him to do just about anything. I am really desperate for help!

He is taking Amantadine for obsessive behavior and aspergers as well as Concerta for attention. I think the medications make a big difference, but we need something more. I take away privileges, electronics ( he is totally into anything that plugs in), etc., but nothing seems to work. It has gotten to the point that I am getting sucked into the 'vortex' he creates, and I have lost my temper on several occasions lately- even spanking him out of my own anger on two occasions. I have got to find a better solution, because he is affecting his future, my marriage, and his two younger brothers. It is like watching a train wreck, and I am desparate for some help.

I would really appreciate some advice, especially from someone who has had experience with his age.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527055659904040434.post-90744992557759442702011-06-05T23:53:17.563-07:002011-06-05T23:53:17.563-07:00Hey - I am really happy to find this.
