It's (in my opinion) more of a psychological issue steaming from how frightening the world is when you understand why people are doing or have know idea what they are doing to do next. Until you figure them out to some extent they appear to act at random and chaotically.
The more you help the child to understand Why people are doing things the way they are, and What to expect from them next the less frightening things become.

Also we need to understand people like it's a science so I'd recommend exposing them to psychology. When I was a kid I started to think of myself as Jane Goodall observing an figuring out the Apes (no offense) it made things easier to understand, even fun and quickly became an interest. People are fascinating :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527055659904040434.post-12848472913444200582011-10-02T08:27:00.646-07:002011-10-02T08:27:00.646-07:00I got two diagnoses for ADHD before I finally got ...I got two diagnoses for ADHD before I finally got a proper evaluation and diagnosis for my daughter at 12! For her this is better because it will not limit her education, also students can keep a 504 in place until college. Before you get your child's 504 in place make sure you have thought of each possible scenario. Examples of typical 504 mods; time and a half to complete tests, separate examination areas, unfinished classwork sent home and allowed to be finished without penalty, modified phys ed. (my daughter has trouble with organized sports, rules, noise, too many students, all stressers) Homework buddy (helps to assure your child's assignments get home. Find articles explaining Aspergers and bring them as handouts to these meetings. Stress to the administration that this is a neurological disorder and NOT behavioral. You know your child best so you are their best advocate. Insist they report to you weekly on your child's progress. And you are correct, they do not understand our children, we have to educate them. Don't get frustrated or back down. Good luck! Our children deserve the best education they can get and the best chance to become successful adults.Romysmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14681344765236139549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527055659904040434.post-27163279343812606202011-09-30T11:43:06.807-07:002011-09-30T11:43:06.807-07:00I am frustrated with our sons school they are refu...I am frustrated with our sons school they are refusing an iep she now wants to do a 504 plan but that DOESN'T help!, him taking off from class without teachers knowledge or out from recess without her knowing is a scary situation
my son was officially diagnosed with aspergers 9-27-2011 we been fighting 3yrs to get a proper diagnosisAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1527055659904040434.post-85439934487167822232011-09-30T07:33:53.162-07:002011-09-30T07:33:53.162-07:00amazing 9 year old now but I wasn't sure that ...amazing 9 year old now but I wasn't sure that I was going to survive those first 5 years.
